“We fell in love with this house the first time we saw it. We had been searching for a home with more outside space, a little bit of land but close in to the city. That’s a hard combination to find in the DC metro area. But find it we did and if it weren’t for being transferred overseas we wouldn’t be selling.

It was the location and the yard that first grabbed us. The house is situated with the majority of the yard in the back and it’s very private. The lot is a fully fenced one – acre slice of heaven. In ground (heated) saltwater pool with lots of room for our five grandkids and one very spoiled dog to run around. We have truly enjoyed entertaining our friends in this house as the entire house really lends itself well to parties. There’s an oversized screened in porch for those days you want to be inside but still enjoy the outdoors. Great place to sit and drink a morning cup of coffee listening to the birds and the waterfall from the pool. We were always one of those couples that said we’ll never have a water feature. Guess what, it’s really soothing and I love the water feature.

The actual house is a beautiful mid-century modern. Our home gives new meaning to the term open concept. From the main level with the entire living area flowing together, to the floor to ceiling windows that run the entire length of the house bringing the outside inside to the overly large master suite the house is a dream. It’s a comfortable space that you can relax in and let go of stress. (Read, sit on the patio with a cocktail and listen to the water feature.)

The location can’t be beat. Close to three metros (Glenmont being the closest), shopping and a large assortment of great restaurants. Our favorites are Ruan Thai (consistently ranked in the top 100 on Washingtonian) and Taste of Thai. When we bought the house we had no idea that we are within a five-minute walk to some of the most wonderful trails in Montgomery County. From our neighborhood we have access to the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia Trail. It’s a wonderfully marked system with miles of walking along the river.

The Wheaton Sports Complex is a 5 minute drive / 30 minute walk / 10 minute bike ride from our driveway. This complex is huge and has indoor and outdoor tennis courts, indoor and outdoor ice skating rink and three baseball fields. There’s a dog park, miles of walking trails and a wonderful fishing pond. We’ve spent a lot of time exploring this area and I highly recommend taking a long walk on the trails and enjoying the forest.

Within a mile of the house is the Wheaton Horse Stables – a great place to learn to ride or simply take the kids by to feed carrots to the horses. Across the street from the stables are the Brookside Gardens. The light show Brookside does at Christmas time is one of our favorite places to go during the holiday season. We’re going to miss that.

The neighborhood we live in is Springbrook Forest and we have not found a nicer group of neighbors. It’s a small community with only a little over 100 houses. The streets aren’t a cut through so the traffic is generally limited to people who live here. Twice a year the community does a large neighborhood picnic in the common area. It’s a great way to get together and have a good time. There’s a book club open to new members that gets together every month and a newsletter announcing upcoming events and news of interest. The neighborhood is pretty diverse with a smattering of musicians and artists. The spontaneous invite to a backyard bonfire with a few guitars is not unheard of.”
