Exciting Changes Coming For Downtown Silver Spring

It looks like more cool surprises, and more things to do, are in the works for downtown Silver Spring.

According to a press release from Peterson Companies and Fougler-Pratt, the group that developed the shopping / dining complex 20 years ago, new downtown features will include:

  •     Murals, public art and an outdoor plaza that features additional green space
  •     The Eleanor, which D.C. fans already know as a fun bar, restaurant and games attraction

  •     Renovations to the Copper Canyon Grill at 928 Ellsworth Drive
  •     A “refresh” of the Loft at 922 Ellsworth Drive
  •     A relocation of Ulta, which will move from Ellsworth Drive to the space formerly occupied by City Sports at 8510 Fenton Street
  •     And a Roll By Goodyear tire store at 815 Ellsworth Drive!

The Roll By Goodyear store is an interesting business model. Located in the space formerly occupied by Zpizza, they’ll help you pick new tires and then either pick up your car, install at house, or have you “leave your keys and shop nearby or hang with us.”

But the party crowd will probably be most excited by the Eleanor, which will be located in the space previously occupied by Lincoln’s Bar-B-Que, right next to the downtown fountain. The eatery, which also operates an outlet across from the NoMa-Gallaudet Metro station, will serve brunch, lunch, dinner and feature two happy hours a day every weekday.

The developers say the space will also include six bowling lanes, more than a dozen arcade games (fingers crossed for Skee Ball!), outdoor patios and 20 beer taps. Whoa!

Bottom Line

Overall, the improvements will cost an estimated $10 million. Montgomery County’s planning department tells us the developers have not yet submitted plans, but more details will be available once plans are submitted. We’ll keep you posted!
