March 25th Is Maryland Day!

Celebrate All There Is To Love About Maryland With These Local Activities

We’re proud to be a Maryland-based brokerage with a passion for serving the entire Metro area: DC, Maryland, and Virginia. We love an opportunity to celebrate our state! Join us as we dive into some fun ways to celebrate the seventh state.

What is Maryland Day?

Since 1903, Maryland Day has been a legal holiday in the state, marking the anniversary of March 25, 1634, the day Maryland was formally founded as a colony. Colonists pitched a cross onto St. Clement’s Island, in what is currently St. Mary’s County, and took “possession of this Country for our Saviour and for our sovereign Lord the King of England.”

Make Your Own Crab Cakes

Looking for a way to celebrate Maryland Day from home? Marylanders take this iconic dish seriously. We suggest a fun evening of making your own! In case you don’t have a go-to crab cake recipe, we share a personal favorite. For a truly Maryland-inspired evening, enjoy your crab cakes with a Natty Boh and watch one of the many movies that take place here. Here are some suggestions: Hairspray (Netflix), Wedding Crashers (Hulu and HBO Max), Harriet (Peacock), Cry-Baby (Amazon Prime), and Tuck Everlasting (Disney +).

 The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum

marinerWhat’s more Maryland than Chesapeake Bay ships? This museum features the largest collection of well-maintained, historic Chesapeake Bay watercraft. Watch the restoration of these ships with your own eyes, experience the history of the Bay, visit a historic lighthouse, and learn more about crabbing and other fishing practices which have made Maryland famous. This St Michaels museum is fun for the entire day and worth the drive from MoCo.

Capitol River Cruises - Washington, DCReal estate photo

Who says you can’t celebrate Maryland Day from DC? While Capitol River Cruises may be known for their cocktails and scenic tour of our Nation’s monuments, we suggest adding a little fun to your experience by opting for the Crab Boat! With all the crabs, beer, and fun you could ever ask for, this experience is a surefire way to do something different. Gather your friends or family for this perfect Potomac cruise with a Maryland twist.

Enjoy Some Local Wine From Home

We’re big fans of craft beers here in Maryland, but our wineries should not be overlooked. In fact, MoCo’s very own Olney Winery is a perfect way to enjoy an evening at home with some wine tasting. Order online for at-home delivery or make a reservation at their tasting room! We recommend supporting a local business and ordering dinner in with your wine tasting experience for a truly relaxing evening.
