Celebrate Spooky Season With These October Events
Pumpkin Patches, Ghost Tours, and Oktoberfests, Oh My! Our Team Showcases our Favorite Ways to Enjoy October in the DC Metro Area
The DC metro area offers a wide range of Fall-themed activities. If you have kids (actually, even if you don’t), there's a lot to do up north when the temperatures begin to dip. At Butler’s Orchard in Germantown, the pumpkins are ready for picking and the hay wagons are ready for riding! Check out the Pick Your Own Crop Calendar to plan your trip. At Heyser Farms in Spencerville, where they make their own cider, the applemeisters are proud to offer their special Spencerville Red variety.
In Germantown, at Waters Orchards, “we grow ‘em, you pick ‘em.” And here’s one of our favorites: if you have the time, head north to Middletown, a little west of Frederick, to visit Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch. Yes, you can pick a pumpkin. But also get lost in the corn maze, take a hayride, or visit the petting zoo!
With as much history as DC holds, it’s no surprise we also have plenty of ghost stories. Looking for a spooktacular way to learn more about all the haunts of the city? Our team recommends Capitol Hill Haunts, a nightly ghost tour focused on historical ghost stories and proves to be an October must-do in DC. Looking for more crime-based ghost legends? Ghosts of Lafayette Park is the tour for you.
Looking for some virtual spooky fun? The National Air and Space Museum has you covered! This year, their annual Air & Scare event is offering some seriously sc-air-y virtual opportunities as well as fun activities for the whole family, including jack-o-lantern ideas, Star Wars themed events, and virtual air and space themed spooky programming! Be sure to read all about it here.
What would October be without a great Oktoberfest? “Put on your dirndl or lederhosen, grab your Dachshund, and head to The Wharf to celebrate Oktoberfest—including the return of the Wiener 500 Dachshund Dash!” This can’t-miss family-friendly event is sure to put you in the October spirit! For a creative spin on this autumnal tradition, consider the OctoBEARfest at the Maryland zoo! This WILDly popular event features Fall-flavored beer tastings, live music, and German-inspired fare. Be sure to get your tickets now before they sell out.
Looking for more Fall fun? Our team compiled even more autumnal activities for you to enjoy in the DC metro area.
